You guys, my friend Amber is an amazing artist, mother, organizer in Philadelphia. Shes working with the Brooklyn Jumbies to come teach children in her neighborhood to learn circus arts. The Brooklyn Jumbies are an African-Caribbean stiltwalking, drum and dance group whose mission is to heighten community awareness of African and African-Carribean culture. Their motto is UNITY THROUGH STILTS(!!!). The Brooklyn Jumbies are coming to the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts on Saturday, September 27th (2-4 pm), to teach a childrens workshop. They will be getting kids up on stilts, many for the very first time in their lives, and will be showing kids how to make a traditional rope skirt used for stilt costuming. The founders of the Brooklyn Jumbies, Ali Sylvester and Najja Codrington, understand that a people without a culture is like a tree without roots. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please write a paragraph about why culture is important and provides us with roots (you do not have to be of African or African-Carribean descent to be part of this workshop).
