You just cant judge a book by its label. Recently, I had a guest, roughly 55, from Michigan who I had previously only known over the phone for the past two years. Then for a week in June, she had to be both in Seattle and then Tacoma. So she jumped on a ferry and spent an overnight here. She had always seemed to me pleasant and smart. But she turned out to be spontaneous and pretty fun. Getting to know her, I found out she actually had three part-time jobs to make ends meet, which seemed to me like a nightmare. And i thought to myself, she must be really tenacious. I began to feel impressed by her. Plus we clicked more than i would have ever guessed. I showed her some of Whidbey for the day and then we ended up in my kitchen doing oddball, but interesting things like... swapping fermenting food tips... discussing how her mom has a black market business distributing raw milk to families (Not here. In another state.).. and why my kifer starter wont make its own starter culture. When she left the next morning, i hoped someday shell come back and visit again. Even my housemate/cousin remarked how likeable and pleasant she was. Today, I met another local friend who she had also visited. The local woman told me that my fun guest was on the Autism Spectrum. I was totally surprised. In particular, I was amazed by my guest in hindsight. Now I like her even better.
