You know...I have to share this one! As I continue in this fabulous birthing world, I must speak on the a topic that is near and dear to me...the understanding of your role. As I cannot speak on being a father, uncle or brother, nor can I speak on being a Grandmother, an Elder or the wisdom of being an Ancestor... BUT... I can speak on the role and responsibility of a Mother. Sisters, After meeting with this newest group of Doulas-to-be I am noticing a pattern here that are alot of you out there that are suffering...and I MEAN SUFFERING from the effects of not having a Mother or Maternal figure that was positive or nurturing to you. You are swimming in a world that was build on fear and distrust and the care that only a Mother can impart. For that...I am truly sorry! Mothers are supposed to give until it hurts...not hurt YOU. Mothers are supposed to give her last because you need it...not be selfish and TAKE from you! Mothers are equally, supposed to be gentle with you...not be the misery you have learned. Mothers...are NOT supposed to be the cause of your pain, they are supposed to be the cure. Again, I am sorry for this happening to you and not getting the love of a Mother as you should...My heart bleeds because of that and I hug you eternally. So if you choose, I will rise to the challenge and will be the Mother you will need...just so you can finally have that love that you failed to receive. I will make that promise to you! I said all of this, because, today, I had to reject about six of the women that were wanting to become Doulas; as reject may be a strong word, but the type of love that is needed in being a Doula does NOT come from passing an Exam or finishing a course. The type of love that you need has to be organic...NOT TAUGHT. You cannot say the right thing to me and expect me to OK you to proceed. I dont do this for pride or ego and damn sure do not do it for the money...anybody that knows me, knows that I give away more Doula trainings than I get paid for, but I do that for women that will embody the craft and make the world a better place after their training. So, if I told you that I cannot see a way clear for you to proceed in this craft NOW, dont take it as a rejection or your only chance to shine in this craft...just do the work we spoke on and let meet back up at a later date. If you want other trainings or information on other teachers, I will be more than happy to give you the names of the Sisters that I know that are holding classes as well!
