You know I rarely raise anything political, but I felt it was - TopicsExpress

You know I rarely raise anything political, but I felt it was important to share: Actors Equity (through the Equity League Health Trust Fund) is dropping all its vested members not currently working from the health insurance. They are doing this to alleviate the growing financial burden of the Cigna insurance plan. We were notified this summer. As vested members (10 or more years working in the industry), we had been told by our union that we would be able to pay into the Health Trust Fund and be insured for our lifetime. We have a few more weeks to find a plan and none of them seem to offer out of network benefits in NYC to individuals (so we can no longer receive any reimbursement toward network health professionals). For performers, not being able to see medical professionals who understands our needs is a make or break difference in our health and ability to perform. All of us face the decision of giving up our out of network doctors and other medical professionals who are not in network (which are many). When I inquired about a possible conversion plan, I was told Cigna (our current provider) refused to offer one. So while I continue to look for options, I just signed this petition…please share if you believe there should be a viable option for New Yorkers (and in other states where this limitation now exists) to purchase competitively priced health insurance with PPO benefits.
