You know, Ive always had this opinion that men are not womens worst rivals (as most feminists make us to believe). Women are Womens worst rivals. Yes they are. In my daily affairs, off & on blogosphere, Ive heard women pass vindictive judgements on other women for one thing or another. There’s a streak of condemnation so strong that whatever choice a woman makes, she often feels the need to defend it. If its not a stay-at-home mum feeling dissapointment for not pursuing a career; its a working mum feeling guilty for not spending enough time with her kids; or its a single woman blaming herself for her unmarried status. According to these self-made judges, there seems to be a specific definition of being a woman — that one is better than another and when a woman doesnt comform to the standards, shes criticized. There is always guilt involved and that guilt is wrought from this toxic air of constant judgement. Having lived with women for most part of my life, I can authoritatively tell you this — The choices of women are so different, often so stressful and sometimes beyond their control, that condemning a woman for whatever life choices she makes, or claiming to have the superior solution for raising children or for being a complete woman is ridiculous and demeaning. Meet women. Go beyond your social circle and take the time to actually talk to women — Old women, young women, School girls, married and single, working at home or out the home, religious or not. Find out what they really want. Ask them what they feel are the important issues, and try not to treat them with contempt when you find out what you thought they wanted is drastically different from what you think they really need. Then work towards helping them accomplish those goals. Then, and only then, will you earn the right to legitimately call yourself an advocate for women.
