You know Ive realized that being a nerd or a geek seems like a reaction against western society. Whether we think its an escape because we cant face reality, or a fascination with the stories and visuals, it seems like our mental rejection of our current world; perhaps fascinated by stories in different universes because that kind of world COULD have existed. Imagine if Tesla, the man who wanted to bring free electricity for everyone in the world, won against Edison? We couldve been straight up living in future anime tech maybe steampunk societies sooner than now. We could be living on planets even sooner. Imagine if being an alchemist like in FMA was an actual part of society since we could harness energy out of thin air? What if Hitler had actually conquered the world? We couldve been living in that dystopia of a totalitarian state that we must bring down as rebels as we see in any awesome story. Being a nerd or a geek is just showing your appreciation for what if situations and knowing how much better the world could be or how much worse it couldve been if it wasnt prevented.
