You know, a common argument Ive seen in fiction used to differentiate humans and robots/AI is the idea that robots/AI cant be creative, such painting a masterpiece, composing a symphony, etc. But in my musings, Ive come to the conclusion that this presumption is false. As with most things in the world, art follows certain rules: different colors go together, certain archetypes imply a concept or meaning, certain musical tones will make people experience a correlated emotion. These rules and conventions can be coded into computer. From there a message, idea, or concept can selected and associated conventions (depending on the medium) can be brought up and combined in a way that meshes with composition convetions to achieve the desired affects. Even if one wanted to create something unconventional or avant garde, a random generator could easily accomplish this. As for the initial idea, concept, or message used to create the art, its just a matter of the AI in question drawing upon its experiences or knowledge and then select one that it feels should be conveyed.
