You know how some shows grow on you? For whatever reason they draw you in? True Detective is like that. Tonight I got caught up to episode 3 with my dinosaur passed out on top of me. I have to say that I am impressed by both Woody Harrelson’s performance – which is turning out to have very many layers – and the absolutely astounding job that Matthew McConaughey is doing. There is such amazing depth to this show, to the personas that these two men portray. I do not want to use words like “edgy” or “gritty” but this goes beyond shows like The Killing on a much deeper level. The Killing is superb as a show, as a who done it crime drama. While Mireille Enos plays an archetype there, and don’t get me wrong, she does is it brilliantly and with amazing clarity of purpose, McConaughey is simply devastating on screen in True Detective. Tonight I officially became a fan of the show. Granted I want to continue with both shows, but True Detective is hands down among the better crime shows I have ever seen, ever.
