You know, it really irritates me when people say that Jeffco students are protesting just so that they can get out of class. When other people accuse our generation of being lazy and unmotivated, it beats us down, because even those of us who work our tails off day in and day out can only take so much abuse from the people were supposed to look up to. There comes a point when everyone, even those who are hardworking and incredibly smart, just want to give up, because no matter what we do it will never be enough for the critics. Sure, there may be a few kids who just want some off time, but at the same time, do those critics really understand the stress students are put under in todays cutthroat academic environment? Do they know the rigor we go through just so we can feel some sort of self validation? Our teachers do. And the ones in Jeffco are so incredibly passionate for what they do that you want to be in class. They make every single lesson new and exciting. Which is all the more reason to protest, because they deserve so much more than they get right now. So no, I will not get off your lawn, Jeffco BOE. In fact, youve slid the lawn right under me. And I will stand here firmly, because even though Ive already graduated from Lakewood High School, every single child in Jeffco deserves and education that reaches above and beyond.
