You know, the post on kutia got me thinking about this years sviat vechir menu...And as such, Im also curious about what others will be planning for theirs. Well, here is mine (tentatively): 1 - Havent yet decided whether to start off with a borshch (with vushka), or herring soup (with wild mushrooms) 2 - Kutia (recipe provided in an earlier post) 3/4 - 2 types of varennyky (one with potato & onion; one with sauerkraut & mushroom) 5/6 - 2 types of holubsti (one with rice, onion & fresh dill; one with buckwheat, onion & dill seed) 7/8 - 2 types of seafood (probably marinated herring; havent decided on broiled or steamed salmon or cod) 9 - Mushroom medley sauteed with onion & garlic 10 - Koreika (a marinated carrot salad) 11 - Tossed salad with a sharp mustardy vinaigrette 12 - Uzvar (compot) of assorted dried fruits Normally, I have both a nice dry Riesling...and a dry Cabernet with the meal, and black tea/coffee following (but I dont count these as stravy...) Because of the starches in the varennyky and holubtsi, I usually forgo bread with this meal. I have a braided kolach loaf as a centrepiece that holds a tall tapered candle. I also decorate with straw/wheat ornaments from the chandelier, as well as provide them for guests as a gift.
