You know those compassionate videos that circulate virally where you see someone give someone money because theyre going through tough times...?? Well my heart broke when I overheard a guy on the phone crying to the welfare authorities that he cant afford to go feed his daughter because he didnt hand in forms... So he has to wait 2 weeks to receive welfare money to help him..!! I walked to the nearest ATM, pulled out $100, walked back up to where he was seated, knelt down in front of him and told him to put the call on hold... He covered the mouthpiece and looked at me.. Poor guy..I handed him the $100 and told him that he didnt need to cry and worry any more and to feed his child.. And to have faith in humans. He looked around to see if it was a set up...no cameras..no jokes...just pure heart. He looked at me with tears in his eyes, hand on his heart speechless but managed to thank me... I shook his hands, told him my name. His name is Ali. Once upon a time, I needed the same help and I had my beautiful friends lift me up and help me out of my rutt.. Now it was my turn to pay it back, and forward to help someone else that desperately needed it. Id rather do that for someone then spend my money on bullshit material things. Its our purpose in life to lift one another. To help a stranger. To create happiness in our lives and enrich the lives of others. How do I feel after doing that? Amazing. Blessed to be in a position to help instead of counting how much interest is being made on money sitting in the bank. It interests me more to help people in need.. How does he feel after that? Well Im guessing that he feels relieved, blessed, calmer...perhaps even curious... And hopefully inspired. One thing I asked of him before I walked away is to do the same for someone else one day and with his hand on his heart he made that promise. Ill never change. Despite being used and abused in the past for my kindness and generosity, I wont let the bitterness and greed of other peoples intentions darken my soul.
