You know those confessional blogs and threads where people admit that they dont actually like having children? Thats how I feel about dogs. Theoretically, dogs are great (I guess). This one seemed like a good idea, and he needed a home. We put a lot of money and time into rehabbing him, vetting him, and training him. Hes a well trained dog, smart, obedient, and affectionate. And hes over-enthusiastic, over-rambunctious, loud, and gosh dogs are needy. And the licking. Ew. Dogs are gross. They are disgusting little beings. The most disgusting creatures I have ever met in person. In related news, I had a lovely little evening planned for my sweetheart and I tonight to celebrate our anniversary, with candles and a clean house and -- well, and other things. I came home from class ready to get everything set up. Walked in the door to a giant pile of crap. Several piles. I am not speaking metaphorically. Our house has nine rooms and only two of them are carpeted. The crap is on the carpet. Do you have any idea how much three piles of dog diarrhea soaking into carpet reeks? Two hours later, Im still dealing with the aftermath when I walk into the *other* room with carpet... and the dog has pissed in a corner. WTF. Guess what Im doing instead of preparing a surprise homecoming for Carey? (Happy anniversary, honey! Look, theres no longer dog crap on the floor. Isnt that special?) Im sure the dog is probably sick or bothered or whatever. I get it. And Im kind to him, walk/run him daily, feed him good quality food, provide vet care, and treat him with affection. But next time Im in the market for a pet? Cat.
