You know what? First world problems are important too. Sure, one may not be starving to death or anything lifechangingly dreadful, but one should not belittle the worries and pains of a person, just because their magnitude doesnt seem that great. Yes, we are becoming spoiled, and this I know firsthand. However, dont you think that someone who has it all would be more greatly affected by a tiny misfortune than someone who doesnt care for that stuff? I guess what Im trying to say is that a problem is painful to deal with as long as the peson cares about it. So, yes, we should be less materialistic, spoiled and superficial, but we should also be sensitive to the pains and sorrows of others, wether they be romantic problems, confusion, or even depression through something seemingly meaningless. It is probably something theyve never had to deal with before. Just be kind :)
