You know, when youre little, everythings exciting. Getting a new pair of flip flops, spying a butterfly, hunting for Easter eggs, playing in the dirt. Even when you get disappointed time after time by someone who ends up too short on time to take you where they promised. Even when the nights are filled with the echos of your parents angry voices. Despite the fact that your best friend abandons you for the new kid in class. You still have that little nugget of hope rising up in your chest that tomorrows an unopened package of joy, that your daydreams and your longings and your childish plans will come true. As we grow older, we shield ourselves against pain, often by trying to expect very little and by holding ourselves aloof from others so that we dont get hurt. I think God wants us to be unsurprised by the pain and hurt and broken dreams of this world, yet He still desires for us to maintain a childlike wonder and an air of expectation. The Bible tells us to maintain our hope and to trust in our Heavenly Father who gives all good things to those who love Him and do His will. I know quite a few people who exude that hope and that joy despite earthly circumstances that would seem too much to bear. Look around and be thankful for those people. They are good company to keep.
