You may be hearing about the Enterovirus D68, a respiratory illness in children that the media has been reporting on. Our Infection Prevention Coordinator, Caron Withers, reminds you that the best way to protect yourself and your children from respiratory illnesses is by washing your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after changing diapers, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid kissing, hugging and sharing cups or eating utensils with those who are sick, and by disinfecting frequently touched surfaces such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick. You can get more information from the CDCs website at cdc.gov/non-polio-enterovirus.
