You may have seen news stories about Enterovirus D68 with CHOP Infectious Disease specialist Dr. Susan Coffin. If you are concerned, Dr. Coffin shares the following: -While enterovirus D68 has reached Philadelphia, this is not a new virus. We have seen it in past Fall respiratory seasons. -Symptoms of enterovirus are similar to the common cold virus, no more severe or contagious. The treatment is the same. -If your child has severe respiratory symptoms, contact your pediatrician. - This is a good reminder to participate in good health hygiene- hand washing, covering your mouth when you cough, throwing away your tissues, staying home when you are sick and most important-- getting the flu vaccine.
