You may recognize the football player standing next to my wife in the picture below as the former Alabama standout quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath. You may remember seeing Broadway Joe recently conduct the pre-game coin toss at this year’s Super Bowl festivities. If you recall, the referee handed Namath the coin, who tossed it in the air before Seattle was asked to call heads or tails. Namath’s college career began when Bear Bryant offered him a football scholarship to attend the University of Alabama and Bryant described him as “the greatest athlete I ever coached” During the three years that Namath played at Alabama they won a National championship and had a 29-4 record over three seasons. As an NFL player, Namath became famous in 1969, three days before the Jets 16–7 win over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, after being quoted as saying We’re going to win Sunday …. I guarantee it. Shannon had the opportunity to meet Joe Namath while we were enjoying a meal with friends after attending a recent Continuing Legal Education seminar.
