You may remember Betty from the Nat. Geo, Wild television show - TopicsExpress

You may remember Betty from the Nat. Geo, Wild television show Animal Intervention. She was featured on the Tiger Lady episode. I wish I could tell you that shes doing fine, but that is not the case. After being lied to and sued by another sanctuary that promised to help her and forced to give up her life long passion for the cats because of failing health, she is now battling cancer. Betty has endured hardships and been living in conditions that most people could not imagine. She needs help. Here is a new newsletter from her that she asked me to share: ____________________________________________________________________ Riverglen Tiger Shelter P.O. Box 14 Mountainburg, AR 72946 479-276-5512 Fall 2013 Newsletter November 7, 2013 As Riverglen Tiger Shelter copes with the first fall here at Mountainburg without our tigers and other big cats, we also must cope with the reality that founder Betty Young is undergoing cancer treatments. Betty has begun receiving treatments 5 days per week, and we will keep our many friends and supporters updated as she navigates this path. Carefully-edited television programs and internet videos, as well as lies and broken promises over the previous five years about moving Betty and Riverglens Big Cats to a forever home at National Tiger Sanctuary in Missouri caused delays in Bettys ability to get treatment for her medical needs, resulting in terminal cancer. Sadly, just last month, we received word that Richard, the only Riverglen cat moved to Missouri in their nationally-televised media-circus video, was euthanized at that facility. Although we appreciate that Turpentine Creek responded to Bettys call for assistance with caring for and finding homes for some of Riverglens Cats, we were disappointed at the manner they chose to raise funds, at the expense of Riverglens reputation. Bettys focus, as always, was for her CATS first! We enjoy the updates from our friends at Cedar Cove Feline Conservatory & Education Center in Louisburg Kansas, who share Bettys vision of caring for the big cats entrusted to their facility. It is truly a special place for its residents, as all work is done by volunteers. Please visit this remarkable facility whenever you get near the Kansas City area, and be sure to ask about the Riverglen Cats! Our work must continue, as the Texas Rescue Donkeys must be cared for daily, as well as the many Riverglen feline friends remaining in residence. Friends of Riverglen are providing much appreciated hay for the donkeys, as well as hauling the food generously donated by our dedicated supporters at Tyson. We remain committed to the care of these rescue animals, and call on you for additional support for this special group of animals. We began our Save Our Cats & Kittens (S.O.C.K.) Program this spring, and have assisted with the Rescue/Spay/Neuter of 5 cats so far. Friends of Riverglen in Winslow, Arkansas are fostering the latest of these rescues, a very sweet, rambunctious abandoned female tabby just 20 weeks old, in hopes of finding a special place for her forever home. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our efforts. Every donation counts in the battle to S.O.C.K. Feline overpopulation! A very special Thank You goes out to our supporter who sent a generous donation in honor of his brother, who recently lost his own battle with cancer. We send our most sincere condolences for the loss of a dear family member.
