You may remember Shammyrock (pictured below)... a sea lion we rescued last year with one of the most horrible entanglements weve seen. (Dont worry... he healed here at the Center and is back in his ocean home). Each year, abandoned ghost nets kill millions of marine mammals, sea turtles, sharks and birds. Now, an engineering student has come up with a method to produce a biodegradable fishing net, with an attached RFID tag so fishermen can find their lost nets.
