You probably dont remember this, but in Scandalous Countess, Dracy waits at York Gate for Georgia to arrive by boat, and to escort her and her mother. The many steps along the river, public and private, were important parts of transportation. Here, bottom right in the picture in the middle, is York Gate close to that time. Left is a photo my husband took when I was researching. Finally a wide one showing size (thats me in blue) and how the Embankment area puts it a long way from the river now.
