You sleep in late today, theres no reason to get up early. Youre grounded. Yesterday went just as you thought it would, the guys and you started out sledding in all the usual places. Then we got the word there was gonna be a snowball fight down by the boat launch on Dam Road, the East Lake guys vs the West Lake guys and we were to meet at the main beach and we would head over. There was close to 15 of us that gathered together and headed over. When we got there the other guys had built themselves a snow fort and started throwing snowballs at us as soon as we got in range. It looked like they had about 15 guys too. It was an epic snowball fight, it seemed to go on forever until, almost simultaneously, one kid on each side got hit in the face with a snowball and each one started to get a shinner. It was called a draw and we all drifted away. The four of us decided we were gonna go out to Deadmans Cove and then walk around the lake. We got out to the cove and the debate started about the ice, and they dared me to walk out on the to see if it would hold. I got about five feet from shore and ice broke and I plunged in, it was only about two feet deep but I got soaked, and had to go home. My mother had already heard about the snowball fight, the guys who got hit in the face, both had major shinners and the eyes were swollen shut. Then I came home soaked because I fell through the ice, that was just a little to much for my mom, and she grounded me. I probably could gotten by with just the fight or just falling in, but both together were just too much. Eventually I get up and have breakfast. Mom and I sit down to open todays window and here comes another blast from the past by Burl Ives.
