You want to get abs? I had a client ask me today, and thought it would be a good little topic coming into summer...you do not need to train abs to get abs...if you follow a solid strength program, the abs will come along with it as a perk..and if you do train abs, dont train them like a madman, and dont train them everyday, they need their recovery. My ab routine consists of, bench, squats, deadlift, and pull ups, its as simple as that..all this is done with a super tight midline, and good lungs! As holding the breath is a big key to all compound movements.. believe it or not, the best advice I have received is to hold my breath for up to 6 reps on movements such as bench and standing barbell press...along side with many more..think of a balloon, when you put air into it, it blows up and is tight, when u let air out it deflates, now relate that back to your body..and I guarantee you will have sore midline the next day. (Not saying ab exercises are bad, but if you are like myself and find them boring, throw in some low rep, high set compound movements, or follow a strength program)
