You want to kickstart Hartfords economy? You want to draw in people from all over to our city? You want to make us into a destination? Take a cue from Burlington, Vermont (or Portland, Maine or Portsmouth, New Hampshire). I lived near Burlington for five years, and believe me, the Church Street Marketplace was always busy, always thronged with shoppers, diners, street musicians, and more; all of them spending money and many filling the hotels. And it was that way day and night, through all four seasons of the year. It would be a better bet than a stadium any day--and would create more jobs than a stadium ever could. The question is: Where could we put it? Too bad we destroyed so many architecturally beautiful, old historic buildings in the name of progress. Ideas, anyone?
