You will all be aware that offsite parking at SGH is at a premium, - TopicsExpress

You will all be aware that offsite parking at SGH is at a premium, if not nonexistent. Glasgow City Council aim to introduce harsh penalties to deter ‘commuters’ parking in and around Govan very soon which makes the situation much worse for those staff who need to travel to their work by car. This will impact on those who live in Govan unfortunately. As most of the staff knows the building site workers were allowed to park on land within Hardgate road. This land was leased temporarily for this purpose. Those building workers are now parking in the new multi-storey car park. The land they leased, which is owned by Ogilvie Construction (Stirling) is now unutilised but locked to access. Over the last few weeks I contacted the Managing Director of Ogilvie and began negotiations regarding the possibility of NHS staff using this land for offsite secure parking. At this point I need to stress that Ogilvie Construction is a business not a charity. Therefore it was a business plan I put to him. I won’t bore you with all the details of the negotiations and information I have furnished them with (and I admit I did pull on his heartstrings a bit!) but the proposition I put to him went to the Board of Directors and he telephoned me this afternoon with the result. Ogilvie Construction has agreed to open this substantial piece of land for private parking at £3 per day. It will have a full time parking attendant, lighting and safe parking. Should it be a success the remaining land will be upgraded for use and an hourly charge will be available for visitors to Maternity and Care of Elderly. Now I am aware this will not suit every member of staff but given the attitude of the Health Board and Glasgow City Council it will be a safe alternative for many staff. It will hopefully ease the present deplorable choices we have at present, particularly as Govan Rod will soon be a pay to park. This land and private parking should be available in approx two weeks time. I will give you an exact date. I hope this will be a solution to many staff if not all but in the absence of anything else I‘ve done my best.
