You will hear people say to women, especially young women...young BLACK women...make better choices. But instead of saying or preaching to make better choices, what are you doing to HELP them make better choices? Mentoring is such an important and NECESSARY thing in our community today. As Women of Color, I do not see us as doing that enough in our community. We have young, talented girls falling at the wayside, disappearing and all the self-righteous, empowered sisters casting a side-eye and passing judgement. Do you realize that it is by a separation of 6 degrees how you did not end up in her position? You say impossible, but I say very possible. Help and uplift your sister rather than blame and castigate her. TEACH her what she needs to know so that she understands that SELF LOVE is such an important thing. Help her to know that it is okay to make mistakes, so long as you learn from it. Be there to listen and guide, but not to judge and denigrate. The choice has been made. Cannot turn back and make it different, but what can you do to help her move forward? I am SO glad and grateful to ALL the women whom have come into my life to help guide and direct me. Who listened and offered guidance (even when it seemed I wasnt listening). For those who saw what I sometimes could not see in myself. I honor you and thank you. Many are still alive and there are those who are in the spirit and their guidance still touches and affects my life daily. To ALL of you, I say THANK YOU!
