Youll have to blink to realise this articles not speaking about the refuge crisis in NSW - its about whats happening in the UK. Rather than be original in its thinking, it looks like NSW has compared notes with authorities in the UK where theyre modernising old fashioned services and some shelters are being forced to shut because they dont take male victims, competitive tendering has been weighted towards larger housing associations and businesses and ignores the lessons of four decades (in the case of NSW, its larger charities), and refuges are facing closure in favour of preventative work and support in the community. Sound familiar? Similarly, in NSW, 40 years of evidence is being scorned and dismantled for a convenient, unknown, untested new way.
