Young residents at Linden Green Apartments in Christiansburg, Va. recently had the opportunity to try their hand at writing a holiday play and designing the sets for it with help from VT Engage: The Community Learning Collaborative VISTA members and Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology - ICAT fellows. The activity was part of a new Maker Space program introduced to two CHP rental communities in the New River Valley. With a focus on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, maker spaces typically blend aspects of traditional laboratories, workshops, and interactive exhibits, thereby inviting hands-on construction and tinkering.
