Your Money, Your Area, Your Views – Community Grant Fund All 14 Area Action Partnerships (AAPs) across the County are providing an opportunity for groups and organisations like yours to apply for a community grant through a Participatory Budgeting activity to help deliver projects and activities locally. Participatory Budgeting (PB) directly involves local people in making decisions on the spending and priorities for a defined public budget. The process involves residents and community groups representative of all parts of the community coming together to discuss and vote on a range of projects developed to benefit your area. Funding of £25,000 has been made available by Bishop Auckland and Shildon AAP for the local area and we would like to invite you to submit an application. You can apply for a grant of between £500 and £2,000 and your project / activity must fit in to one or more of our local priorities which are as follows: · Children and Young People · Crime and Community Safety · Employment and Job Prospects Those projects which meet our grant criteria will have to attend our Forum event taking place on 16 November 2013 at Bishop Auckland College to display their project information. Applicants will then be expected to promote the event so as many people as possible can vote for their favourite projects. The projects receiving the most votes will receive a share of the funds we have available. This event will be a great networking opportunity for all groups across the area and there will also be additional ‘have your say’ activities taking place at the Forum including the chance to vote on your local AAP priorities for 2014/15 and helping to shape Durham County Councils’ Budget at a time when we’re having to make difficult decisions regarding budget spend and cuts. If you would like to apply to take part in our ‘Your Money, Your Area, Your Views’ community grant fund, please contact us for an application form. We have included some guidance notes for you to assist you with completion of your form and to see if your group is eligible to apply, but if you would like any further help or support then please contact a member of the Bishop Auckland and Shildon AAP team and we will be happy to assist. When all application forms have been received they will be independently appraised by an AAP Panel that will check whether your project is eligible. If your application does meet the criteria, you will be expected to attend to display your project/activity information at our forthcoming Forum event. More information on display format will be sent to those applicants nearer the time. If your application does not meet the criteria, we will provide a valid explanation as to why we could not progress your application on this occasion and offer advice and guidance. We will also, where possible, signpost you to alternative sources of funding for your project/activity. Support will be available with completion of applications from the Bishop Auckland and Shildon AAP team if required. As this is a competitive process not everyone will be successful in being awarded a community grant, however projects who have taken part in these events in the past have gained much more than just the funding from the experience including, the chance to network with other groups operating in their area, recruiting new members and the opportunity to better understand what else is happening in their local area. The event will give you an opportunity to showcase all the good work your group/organisation is involved in and raise your profile in the community. The AAP can send you a hard copy or electronic version of the application form and once complete please sign and return your form by 13th September 2013 to Bishop Auckland and Shildon AAP, Shildon Business Centre, Dabble Duck Industrial Estate, Shildon DL4 2RF. Please note forms can be emailed to [email protected] but you must supply a signed hard copy of the completed application to the team at the address above.
