Your Support is needed! A message from the Executive Director of the Childrens Museum of St. Augustine: The Childrens Museum is meeting some resistance about being built in St. Augustine. Unfortunately, theres a lot of misinformation being shared. If you feel passionate about having a world-class childrens museum in St. Johns County (as one does not currently exist in Northeast Florida), please do three quick things: 1.) COMMENT ON THIS POST IN THIS WAY (your name) I Support! Your name will be added to the letter of support to Mayor Boles and Commissioners. 2.) like us on Facebook facebook/ExploreCMSJ and 3.) share this message with your friends and family in Northeast Florida. Thank you! Dear Mayor Boles and Commissioners: The gift of wonder must be nurtured at the earliest age. Learning environments where children are free to explore, discover and realize their potential are essential in instilling a love of learning. Like many metropolitan areas across the country, northeast Florida has an increasing demand for effective, innovative learning opportunities for children. With nearly a half-million children (0-18) living within a 90 minute drive radius and St. Johns County being the fastest growing county in the State, its evident that the school systems will continue to need the support of learning experiences outside of the school classroom. Thats why a group of passionate educators, parents, business owners, architects and others are working diligently to bring a childrens museum - the newly renamed tag! Childrens Museum of St. Augustine - to St. Johns County a place to bring children, families and communities together. As you consider the best uses of our citys resources and after having proclaimed the tag! Childrens Museum as a 450th Legacy Project in the fall of 2012, its evident that you share our belief in the importance of making a community-wide investment in children and families. As we look around our beautiful and historic city, we see an unparalleled opportunity to fill the void that exists for an educational and cultural resource specifically targeting our youngest residents and visitors. A childrens museum in St. Augustine will: • Offer lifelong learning opportunities for all ages, bringing children, families and the community together in a safe, fun, positive environment; • Celebrate and commemorate what is unique about St. Augustines rich culture and environment, helping both residents and visitors understand our past in order to better serve our future; • Repurpose and reimagine one of several now vacant, non-functioning areas of the city into an eco-friendly, beautiful location for children and their families to play and explore; • Complement and augment local school curricula by connecting what kids are learning in the classroom to the real world, inspiring a new level of understanding through hands-on exhibits and programs; • Create a projected economic impact of $1.9 million annually, including the creation of 16 new jobs in the first year; and • Be accessible to all children and care-givers, regardless of finances, physical limitations or other special needs. • tag! aims to complement formal education with key exhibit areas that offer informal educational opportunities, including, S.T.E.A.M., Health and Wellness, The Environment and Culture. As we all envision St. Augustine becoming even more of a world-class city over the next 50 years, the investment in a childrens museum will be an extraordinary gift to be enjoyed by generations to come. Thank you in advance for your continued support in making the tag! Childrens Museum a reality for our community.
