Your body knows you are thirsty. Your soul and spirit know when - TopicsExpress

Your body knows you are thirsty. Your soul and spirit know when you are spiritually thirsty. But there are parts of our consciousness that turn off feedback as part of an off-center survival system. We shut down our emotions because we cannot cope with the constant reminders of our thirst and need nor of its intensity. Then, worship reminds us. We are thirsty and our thirst is all-consuming. We are at the edge of death. We cannot muster the strength and hope to feel our hopelessness. The songs and texts trigger that connection that is never far from the surface. Earnest seeking and flesh fainting are an uncomfortable combination. How can I earnestly seek when I am faint of heart. The psalmist begins with a longing look. He who is depleted of power, looks to the One with all power and glory, whose love is steadfast and better than life itself. Then, he engages his lips in praise, feeble at first until he can lift his hands. Worship has revived his soul by reviving his sense of need. The very act of joining in the chorus sung so many times brings him and us into alignment with our neediness and Gods bounty to meet those needs. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. (Psalm 63:1-4 ESV) youtu.be/x7xDg8z7YMQ
