Your comment on Buhari’s phone number is petty and silly – APC tells Jonathan January 11, 2015 The All Progressives Congress, APC, has blasted President Goodluck Jonathan over his comment that the party’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, can’t remember his phone number. According to the APC, such a comment from Jonathan who is the President is “petty” and “silly.” It would be recalled that Jonathan at a PDP rally in Enugu on Friday while reacting to a statement by Buhari that he would transform the economy if elected said he wondered how the APC candidate intends to transform the economy when he failed to do so while he was in office as Head of State between 1983 and 1985. “Is it now that Buhari cannot even remember his own phone number that he can change the economy of the country,” Jonathan asked. But in a reaction on Saturday, APC national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, described Jonathan’s as silly, adding that there was no correlation between what Jonathan said and why Buhari can not perform better in office if elected. “It is silly and petty to say Buhari cannot remember his telephone number. For the 20 moths Buhari was in power, he ran a surplus budget and he was the first Head of State to introduce local content. Mr. President is ignorant,” Mohammed. On the economy, Mohammed said Buhari, during his tenure as Head of State, was first to introduce trade by barter, didn’t take international loans and did not devalue the naira. He, however, added that the APC’s manifesto explains how Buhari would govern the country if elected. “He is too lazy to read and understand this. It is sad and contradictory for him to rely on a speech made by a military regime. Mr. President should read our manifesto, which shows our robust solutions,” Mohammed said. On corruption, he said, “Jonathan’s body language and being surrounded by corrupt people makes it impossible for him to fight corruption,” adding that the PDP-led government has failed in the war on corruption because “no corrupt government can fight corruption.” According to him, only a leader like Buhari who has nothing to hide can effectively tackle corruption. On the issue of insecurity and insurgency, Mohammed recalled how Buhari defeated the Mataisine sect as the Head of State, saying if he (Buhari) didn’t equip the military as being alleged by Jonathan, how would he (Buhari) have achieved such feat. He added that the military didn’t suffer under Buhari and also recalled that the Nigerian Air Force received two military aircraft from Italy, with another three expected at the end of 1984. The APC spokesman said, “As to his (Jonathan’s) claim that he has done more than his predecessors to shore up the country’s defence; that is absolutely untrue. It was under Jonathan’s watch that our Army was so ill-equipped and ill-motivated that there were mutinies. “Is it not strange that a President, who for six years has been unable to fight insecurity, corruption and unemployment, is casting aspersions on a man whose twenty months’ reign has become a reference point for discipline and transparency?” Read full story here: today.ng/news/your-comment-on-buharis-phone-number-is-petty-and-silly-apc-tells-jonathan/
