Your eyes are not deceiving you - this little lady is a Labrador and her story is very sad - so sad in fact that Ebony is now an honorary GSD and we have agreed to help her. We are hoping that you the GSD community will follow her journey and take her to your hearts. Here is her story: Ebony is the product of back yard breeding. Ebony was kept on a chain and the breeders child would jump on her and we believe that she may have a back injury as a result of being jumped on from such a young age. We would like to reassure you that the back yard breeder no longer has any dogs at her property. Ebony managed to escape this life of hell for four months and was wondering in a rural area fending for herself - not the best of starts for a young dog. Ebony was found and returned to the breeder who realising that Ebony had some serious issues and she could not make money out of her put her up on Gumtree as free to a good home and she ended up with her current carer. Her carer has contacted us as Ebony has been diagnosed with Elbow Dysplasia and has other hip and back issues. They are finding it difficult to manage her pain and a discussion was held prior to her involvement about her being put to sleep. After hearing of Ebonys plight - a plight caused by poor breeding and an absolutely terrible start to her life we have agreed to help and Ebony is being booked in at the Wynnum Manly Veterinary Hospital for xrays of her elbows, hips and back and any other necessary tests deemed necessary. Ebony is 13 months old and we feel that she deserves a chance as we did for honorary GSD Rottweiler Bundy. Once the x-rays have been done our vets can also review the current cocktail of medications that Ebony is on and we will then be able to determine whether we can physically rehabilitate this beautiful girl to a point where she can enjoy a good quality of life as we did for Destiny. We hope that you the GSD community will understand why we have agreed to help Ebony and why we have decided to make her an honorary GSD. Ebony is a virtual foster. At this stage we do not know what her total costs will be until she has had her xrays and then we will have a prognosis and will know more about what the future will hold for this darling girl. A couple of points can be taken from Ebonys story - why he dislike back yard breeding. If this breeder had hip and elbow scored her Labradors she would never have bred with them and the importance of supervising young children around puppies whose development can be seriously affected or as in Ebonys case they can be injured.
