Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have! ~Matthew 6:22-23 (MSG) Idolatry is always sourced from a lie about who God is and what Hes done. When the human heart first sees God for who He really is and just BEGINS to understand what He actually accomplished on Calvarys Cross - a choice must immediately be made; receive Him for ALL that He is, or reject Him in favor of ones own version of God...also called an IDOL. This idolatry will express itself as an addiction to self-pity, bitterness, rage, complaining, lust, pride, etc...or manifest itself as oppression by anxiety, depression and loneliness. If you reject God for Who He really is, you invite bondage to all kinds of demonic crud! Heres another way to look at it - if you are still bound by destructive habits or held captive by demonic compulsions - YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST OVER YOUR LIFE. In order for the human heart to stay under the rule and reign of darkness - the rule and reign of Christ must be absent. It is IMPOSSIBLE for the human heart to be ruled by two masters! We are either in service to One or the other... Dead religion teaches that the Christian may be schizophrenic in their spirit; that one may love God very much but live in disobedience to Him and His Word. The evidence of your love for God is your total submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, as evidenced by a life of radical obedience! Sincere love, even when it is immature, is relentless in its pursuit of His heart. There is no apathy, no laziness of spirit, no complacency, but only a fierce hunger! I see the humble get free again and again, while the self satisfied - that is those who live to satisfy themselves - remain in deep religious bondage, full of offense, fear, and confusion with God and His Kingdom. Immature love MIGHT stumble in its pursuit of Him, but IF it does, it never gives up! This kind of heart after God refuses to settle for anything less than EVERYTHING Jesus died to give them! They make no excuses for their failures, they make no attempt to justify sin, and they utterly refuse to accept that a life of bondage is the abundant life Jesus spoke of! THESE HEARTS COME FACE TO FACE WITH HIM AND THEIR DEEPEST DESIRES ARE SATISFIED!
