Your fiction is part of a complex ecosystem, and within that ecosystem, it is an organism with many complex parts. Understanding the Elements of Narrative, including the Greater and Lesser Mysteries, should be in the service of also understanding how they work together. Once you have even a little mastery of these elements, that mounstrous penguin you just created that walks on water and belches fire will have three eyes by design rather than by accident. It also might just find a reader or two...
