Youre missing the point! High and dandy remarks about activism, and rightly so, because activism done right is honorable. Even necessary. But by deploring your violent acts against Abad, we were NEVER against activism. We were NEVER against rallying. Heck, we were NEVER against your hatred towards Abad. I rally too. My friends, partymates. The student activists of decades past brought great gains to the democratic movement through activism. People gathered in the streets to oust corrupt, dictatorial leaders. It was a rally, it was democracy, and it was success. It that made us the country we are today. But did we manhandle Erap and throw scraps of paper to his face? Did we put a bullet to Marcos head? Did we justify our collateral damage (innocent bystanders!) by essentially saying, were against all forms of human rights violations! Oh, we injured you? Oh you know, some human rights violations are justified!? Was the success of the People Power movement in its violence? No. All im saying is, if you think kicking/punching/injuring Abad will get you your taxes back, then were against YOU, because then, youre just as good as someone who has regressed our causes for true justice and democracy. Because justice requires due process. And democracy knows that its difficult to talk to someone who shouts instead of listens - listens even to criminals. SIMPLY PUT, you couldve still rallied outside, made a show of force, chanted, stood your ground. You could have told the organizers that you needed more than 5 minutes for Q&A, and that you wanted to ask the questions out loud, for the tons of people in the audience to hear, people who took the time to sit through the lecture, listen, and analyze. You could have involved them in the discourse. And that did not require you to hurt other people - not just Abad - in the process. But you didnt. THATS why its just hooliganism, and not the brilliant, intelligent activism that once upon a time people from your line of political thinking once mastered.
