You’re An Impostor, Amaechi Lashes Jang Again…As Plateau Gov Calls Another NGF Meeting For Tomorrow Rivers State governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi has again lashed his Plateau State counterpart, Jonah Jang whom he described as an impostor and an impersonator. This reaction signals a fresh war in the divided Nigeria Governors Forum following a circular sent round this week by Mr Jang summoning state governors for an emergency meeting tomorrow in Abuja. Ahead of today’s meeting being called by Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has described the former as an impostor, desperately trying to portray himself as the leader of the group. The NGF has been sharply divided into two following the defeat of Jang by Amaechi at the forum’s election on May 24 in Abuja. Whilethe Rivers governor scored 19 votes, his Plateau rival got 16. Rather than accept defeat, Jang backed by President Jonathan and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP set up a parallel secretariat of the forum to lead a faction of state governors mouthing support for Jonathan’s second term ambition in 2015. Attempts by Jang to hold a meeting of the forum have always shown his unpopularity among the governors, with only a number less than his initial support base of 16. In a fresh move this week, the Jang faction sent out a notice which reads: “The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau State has summoned an emergency meeting of members of the forum. The meeting will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the NGF Secretariat, 2 Nana Close, off Erie Crescent, Nile Street, Maitama, Abuja at 7.30 PM. The agenda for the meeting are: Constitution Amendment.” A top aide of Amaechi however told iReports-ng. com that “the governor and the authentic Chairman of the NGF is already aware of the Jang trick again and he has accordingly sent messages to members of the forum to ignore Jang’s notice of meeting and even copied some media houses that have called him for his reaction.” When pressed about the message Amaechi sent to other governors and the media on the meeting, the top aide quoted the governor as saying that “I want Nigerians to know that Jang is an impostor, having tried to steal my victory. He was not elected by the majority of governors, who were in attendance during the election on May 24. On what basis does he summon a meeting of the NGF?” iReports-ng’s correspondent in Abuja gathered that the meeting called for tomorrow will be boycotted by a large number of the governors especially the 11 progressive governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC and the five PDP Northern governors that have publicly shown their disdain for the leadership of the party by Bamanga Tukur and Jonathan’s second term ambition. They include Rabiu Kwakwanso ofKano, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto and Sule Lamido of Jigawa.
