Z6b, Detroit. The last hurrah for Musa Basjoo since tonights - TopicsExpress

Z6b, Detroit. The last hurrah for Musa Basjoo since tonights forecast low is 29 F/-2 C... the palms & Japanese Aralia will be protected VERY soon. 6 inches of mulch + a burlap sheet + another 2 inches of mulch brought my bananas back from the Polar Vortex™. They would have been much larger if our summer didnt start until mid July. The surviving cordyline (apparently root hardy with 5+ inches of mulch on top of it) is still with us as well. It was a landmark year for my Needle Palm that flowered in June... and even though I was forced to transplant everything into the back (which will help this winter since the palms now face S/SSE instead of WNW), that didnt stop the rapid growth of Fatsia Japonica (the Aralia) or Musa Basjoo. The only thing I lost was a Yucca Filamentosa (colorguard variety) after a few major downpours flooded the low lying spot its in.
