ZAMBIA RANKED THE POOREST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD IN 2014 COMING BEHIND ZIMBABWE, GAZA AND HAIT Zambia has been ranked as the poorest country in the world in 2014 with an alarming poverty rate of 86 percent coming behind Zimbabwe, war prone Gaza and calamity ravaged Haiti. According to a report published by Which Country which they say is based on indicators used by the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), seven out of 10 people in Zambia live on less than two dollars (K12) a day. “At the end of 2011 more than half of the population of the 10 poorest nations in the world, does not have enough resources to have a decent standard of living, and in some regions, seven out of ten people live on less than two dollars day,” the report states. “An objective way to measure, at least to compare the quality of life and development of the countrys Human Development Index (HDI), an indicator used by the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), which is calculated taking into account three main aspects: longevity, knowledge and access to resources.” In this case, Zambia was 10th on the list of the poorest countries stating; “The population living in poverty is 86%. It is the poorest country in the world. Its economy depends on the copper, which is one of the worlds leading producers. “In terms of industry, highlights the mineral processing industry, cement production and related industries of agriculture. but still very poor nation.” Gaza Strip is in ninth at (81%) followed by Zimbabwe (80%), Chad (80%), Maldova (80%), Haiti (80%), Liberia (80%), Guatemala (75%), Suriname (70%) and Angola (70%).
