ZAMBIA SHOULD HAVE FEDERAL STATES ____________________________________________ Looking at how Zambias political climate is panning out, one can not ignore a suggestion that this country should adopt a Federal Government system. In a federal government each province will administer their economic and provincial political systems whilst still maintaining superiority of the central government. I say this for a number of reasons; 1. This will encourage regional economic competition and not political competition which is proving disastrous. 2. The tendency to vote on regional/ tribal grounds will be eliminated. Each federal state / province local senate will vote for a national leadership using electoral college weighting. 3. The system can help in bringing in quality when choosing national leadership as opposed to situation now when people lining up for jobs, government tenders, money etc are the ones that make the most noise and even hire cadres to pursue their ends. 4. Economic distribution of national wealth (from federal coffers) could be guaranteed, instead of building two universities in new Muchinga Province when there is non in old Northwestern province. These are just about a few high level thoughts. What do you say? JT.
