Zacchaeus was a wee little man, a wee little man was he. For most - TopicsExpress

Zacchaeus was a wee little man, a wee little man was he. For most of us, that old Sunday School song is the extent of our knowledge about Zacchaeus, but as we look at todays Gospel (Luke 19:1-10), we discover that theres a lot more to him than meets the eye! Lukes story has two stunning lessons for us today: first, Zacchaeus goes out of his way to see the Lord, and when he does, Jesus reaction is emphatic -- I *must* stay at your house today! How often do we go out of our way to encounter Christ -- or do we give up when the hustle-and-bustle of our daily life makes it inconvenient to seek Him out? Jesus reaction to us will be the same as His reaction to Zacchaeus: I *must* be with you today! Second, Zacchaeus completely comes to a halt and refuses to take even one step further until he gets himself right with God: he confesses his sins and vows to make amends. This stands in stunning contrast to the story in Luke 7: the Pharisees just plunk themselves down at table with the Lord, and even the sight of the woman bathing Jesus feet with her tears and drying them with their hair doesnt spur them to discern the state of their relationship with Jesus! Its the same with us: when we approach the Supper of the Lamb, do we just jump right at it, or do we repair our relationship with Jesus *first*, before approaching that table fellowship with Jesus? A wee little man? No way... Zacchaeus is a spiritual giant, and a great example for us, today and always! frlarry.pghweb.net/?p=25
