Zachariyayude Garbhinikal Malayalam Movie Review 5/10 Some movies will hit theatres with large proclamations, but in the end would disappoint you in big ways. But, “Zakkariyayude Garbhinikal” has approached a different path that in following right marketing strategies, but only for a good material. Zakkariya (Lal), a veteran gynecologist of having 25 years of experience in successfully handling various cases with complexities; but, call it fate or anything – he and his wife Suzan Mary (Asha Sharath) are not given the chance to have babies by god. At the same time, Zakkariya has some problems now in his hospital. A set of four different pregnant women have came in for his consultation. Saira (Sanusha) is a teenager girl, with some mysteries behind her untimed pregnancy. She is not at all ready to divulge the man behind all the stuff. Anuradha (Sandra Thomas), wife to a rich, but rather old man Hari (Joy Thomas). Hari has entered a stage in his life where he will not survive from an illness which caused him to be bedridden for the rest of his life, while some doctors predicted that his days are over. At the same time, the extramarital affair of Anuradha lead for having her twin babies in her womb. While Jasmine Jennifer (Geetha), who has decided to choose a normal way of living with children rather than leading the life of a priestess; Fathima (Rima), a nurse in Zakkariya’s hospital, by circumstances was forced to act as a pregnant women. Aju (Aju Varghese), her co – worker slowly develops an affection towards Fathima. It is the complexities that Zakkariya has to undergone in consulting all these four ladies, which forms the core story of the movie. Movie has approached a way of narration, where the makers have weaved the whole stories with not much hassles. While we have a lot of conflicted lives in the form of four ladies – Anuradha, Suzan Mary, Jasmine Jennifer and Saira, a whole lot of humorous situations are followed in the story of Fathima. Narrated by the voices of Indrajith, movie has right from the beginning kept a rhythm in dealing five different stories. How they dealt the theme was indeed great considering that almost in nowhere you could feel the unnecessary stretching. You could consider it as a female oriented movie, but in fact it is through the viewports of Zakkariya, that the movie progresses. Treating some serious issues prevalent in our society, movie has showcased various means of lives that women have to undergo currently. There are two women suffering from the mental trauma of not having a child, and another one in confusion of whether to abort the pregnancy or not to. And finally, a girl not at all ready – be it with physically or mentally to have a children. Amidst saying all these seriously ill – fated lives, there is a parallel story of another woman, who pretends to be pregnant. So basically, how pregnancy affects the life of various women is what this hospital of Zakkariya tells about. Even though they could have intruded more into details to a couple of stories, they wisely avoided it not to exceed the limit. May be due to the fear of being tagged as a particular genre of movie or being faced with some controversies, makers might not have utilized the stories to the maximum. But, these are small mistakes…., no, one should not call it as a mistake; you better call it as wisely avoiding controversies. And in this matter, the story of Fathima was an exception. Hers might not be a complex life, but too has her share of difficulties in life. Even though nothing seemed problematic for her, some particular circumstances made her to create a whole lot of stories, the purpose of which was purely entertaining. All in all, the movie”Zakkariyayude Garbhinikal’ has tried to interfere into the life of a doctor and his lady patients with not much hurdles (If you looked in superfluously). Performance: Again a neat duty by all the casts. Lal as the title character did what is needed. At the same time, all the leading ladies too deserve special mention. Be it Sanusha as the untimely pregnant young girl, with a whole lot of problems playing in her mind. We could only feel sympathy towards the particular character. She is going to be a mother soon, but at the same time is not rid of her childish nature. We could really understand this from the situation, when she hesitated to answer properly to the phone call, while enjoyed playing mobile games. Rima too was good in her given task, that of playing a character in a rather comic way. Sandra Thomas was okay, while had some serious problems, even though the responsibilities are only hers. Asha Sharath, Aju Varghese, Joy Mathew too did their roles with easiness. Technical Aspects: Camera works were all good, and everything looked good in the film through the lenses of this camera. Editing was really crisp, and did a wonderful job in restricting the movie well under two hours. Music: There were three songs in the movie. The lullaby song and the romantic one were equally good that of the other one. Script: Script had all the chances of getting deviated from the main plot, since a whole lot of stories are there in the environment. But, since a good piece of care has been given to the script, the whole situation turned out to be not either overdramatic or comic ones. Direction: Scripting process was good and half the duty was done. Then there was a hurdle called neat execution, which too was good in the case of this movie. The timely situational use of comic sequences has helped the movie from slipping into overdramatic or boring one. And special applause for the director in making full use of the story (even though he has many more scopes for utilization of the plot). But, we could definitely expect more works from this director, since he seems to have learnt from the mistakes of his first movie. Verdict: One time watchable
