Zalewski 20.41, Trost 198 at Euro U23 Champs, by Alfons Juck, EME News TAMPERE (FIN, Jul 13): Adam Gemili did not achieved the double during Saturday programme at European U23 Championships as he finished fourth in the 200 m 20.51. Poland´s Karol Zalewski won in PB 20.41 (-0.3) ahead of other Briton Danny Talbot 20.46 and Czech Pavel Maslak with second NR 20.49. Interesting day for Norway running star Henrik Ingebrigtsen who was out in the 1500 m heats (after a fall, but his brother Filip advanced) and then won the 5000 m in 14:19.39. Good quality in the men 400 m hurdles, winning Emir Bekric of Serbia new national record 48.76. 49.19 for second Briton Sebastian Rodger and third Ramus Magi of Estonia (for him a NR). French Simon Krauss won the hurdles 13.55 (-0.4) with Dutch Koen Smet second 13.58 PB. Lithuanian Andrius Gudzius won the discus 62.40 and Belarus hammer gold for Zahar Makhroshka 74.63. On the women side top mark from young Italian Alessa Trost with 198 national U23 mark over Airine Palsyte of Lithuania 192. Also top marks in the pole vault as Russian Angelina Zhuk-Krasnova improved to 470, PB for second Anzhelika Sidorova 460 and third Angelica Bengtsson of Sweden 455. Jodie Williams won the 200 m in 22.92 (-0.5) PB ahead of French Lenora Guion-Firmin 22.96 PB as she earlier won the 400 m in 51.68 also PB. She achieved all that within one hour. German Gesa-Felicitas Krause won the steeple 9:38.91, in 100 m hurdles Isabelle Pedersen of Norway 13.12 (-0.1) and in the 400 m hurdles personal best for winning Vera Rudakova from Russia 55.92. Briton Sophie Hitchon got the hammer 70.72 and her team-mate Katarina Johnson-Thompson leads the heptathlon with 3761 points.
