Zambia is 50 this year. October 24 was Zambia’s 50th - TopicsExpress

Zambia is 50 this year. October 24 was Zambia’s 50th independence anniversary. Zambia’s founding president Kenneth Kaunda turned 90 in April. Kaunda has achieved something none of the 1960s independence leaders in Africa did – he is the only one of that generation who has lived to see his country turn 50. For the past years Zambia has been guided by the principle statement Tiyendi Pamodzi (Forward Together). This statement sounds deep meaning in Zambian social and political struggle. Today I am forced to reflect on our Zimbabwean political drama, the sad drama that has incited bloodshed and loud silence. It has become so clear that as we move forward some of our leaders have lost the plot altogether. We are no longer moving on the same road. Some of our leaders have openly declared and justified their looting tendencies at the expense of the poor grandmother who has to fend for the real ‘first family’ (The People First People). We have become gravely ignorant to the needs of The People and it has become transparent that Zimbabwe is no longer moving towards the same direction. Our leadership has not only betrayed us but reduced us to mere spectators whose basic rights they are not ready to meet. Zimbabwe needs a new voice, a new language that speaks of the realities that affect our parents in the villages. Zimbabwe cries for a Joshua who will take our beloved country to the Promised Land. It needs a voice that will direct us towards Tiyendi Pamodzi. Join your voice to the voices that speak not only about million dollar fraud but one that addresses the basic dignity of the poor and unheard. #The People First#
