Zambian Government Believes NYPD Are Lying about Sata The Zambian government claims that NYPD Deputy Chief of Police Kim Royster was lying about President Sata. The Zambian government claims that NYPD Deputy Chief of Police Kim Royster was lying about President Sata. Following the late night drama and confusion in New York surrounding the health of the president, the Zambian government hastily organised a press conference today for the media houses today at Civic Centre consisting of Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata – the son of the president – reading a statement and refusing any questions. The government is taking the position that there was no incident last night, and that the president is “well” – which directly contradicts official reports provided by the New York Police Department (NYPD) which had responded to the emergency call for medical treatment at the Four Seasons Hotel last night in New York. Sources close to the Zambian delegation inform Zambia Reports that the president received emergency medical care in his hotel room and was unstable for many hours, however he was not hospitalised as initially reported by some media. At the Civic Centre press conference, Mulenga Sata said, “I’m going to give a statement, and there’s going to be no questions.” He continued: “This is to do with the state of the President in New York. (…) I wish to inform the nation and the world at large that His Excellency the President Michael Chilufya Sata is well in New York contrary to the online and international media reports insinuating that the president has been hospitalised. I recently spoke with the President and the First Lady in New York today 7 hours local time, and they have both confirmed that he is well. Therefore the speculations about the President being hospitalised in New York are aberrancies and totally false. The President has expressed regret at the unfortunate reports being circulating concerning his health, and he has urged all peace-loving Zambians to remain calm and united. The president will issue a statement from New York in due course.” A recording of Mulenga Sata’s press conference can be heard here: 00:00 00:00 However this statement implies that the Zambian government believes that the NYPD is either lying or misinformed about the condition of the president. According to story published by the Associated Press, New York Deputy Police Chief Kim Royster informed the media that President Michael Sata was treated by U.S. State Department doctors on Thursday. NYPD spokesman Carlos Nieves later clarified that Sata was treated but not hospitalized. On Wednesday, President Sata failed to appear for his scheduled speaking slot at the United Nations General Assembly for the debate. The current Zambian government does not have a reputation for providing reliable information about the president’s health. Last June, ministers made numerous public statements about President Sata being on a “working holiday” to Israel, before the truth was exposed by an Israeli government official who acknowledged that the head of state was in the country to receive medical treatment. zambiareports/2014/09/26/zambian-government-believes-nypd-lying-sata/
