Zeros a good number. Thats what one DPS official said referring to the number of Election Identification Certificates issued one day, according to evidence in the Voter ID trial. Both DPS and the Secretary of State are dodging the responsibility to ensure that registered voters without a state-issued ID can get the proof they need to exercise their constitutional right. Lets be honest: if the Voter ID law wasnt meant to make it harder for folks to vote, you would expect the state would be working harder to help voters. But theyre not. And only 279 Election Identification Certificates had been issued as of mid-August. That means only .00035% of registered voters who need the ID have gotten it. Im no mathematician but that aint right.
