Thank you! A volunteer writes: Hold onto your heart because magnificent Max is here and hes simply irresistible! This gentle giant (picture a St Bernard with a buzzcut) gets double-takes and admiring looks wherever he goes and everyone who meets him is charmed by his quiet stoicism and laid back attitude. Hes lived with cats (four of them!!!) and is said to get along well with children and other dogs too, so its no wonder that he rocked his behavior assessment and can be recommended for almost any home where TLC is in plentiful supply. Whether greeting other dogs, receiving snuggles or sitting obediently for treats, Max moves with the sort of slow-motion grace you find only in a senior dog whos been-there-and-back and has a story (or five!) to tell. Hes not been given optimal care and though his missing teeth, skin allergies and slightly labored gait make him seem older than his years, Max acts like he could walk for miles and happily takes his time sniffing everything, using the facilities and simply enjoying the fresh fall air. When I turn back toward the Care Center he stops short in protest (what, leaving so soon?) but fortunately I have roast beef in my pocket and boy, does Max love roast beef! I bribe him back down the street, through the door and into his den where he settles onto the bed with a sigh and gives me his best look of saddened resignation. This guy really knows how to work it and naturally I fork over some more guilt-reducing roast beef - like I said, hes irresistible! After years of devotion Max deserves a dignified retirement filled with long walks, plentiful treats and lots of love.
