a break for bbc news now at 4 pm why is this noteworthy. Well since ten am this New Years Day Radio 4 fm has been broadcasting the WHOLE of War and Piece. Possibly the most extraordinary broadcast ever? nine hours I estimate....it is simply mind bending absorbing splendid given as only great radio plays can be...all Russia of the time great houses, great families and lesser attachments -relatives-hangers-on, the panorama of Imperial ambitions, achievements and indeed all Europe- the reasons, philosophies, schemes. strategies-even tactics - the stratagems of love and social advancement; social decline, are all marshalled, paraded and unveiled to and in, the minds eye truly a massive mindbending literary panorama. All this, courtesy of a huge cast of splendid thespians and the production team...I doubt any other radio station on this earth could undertake such a fantastic and magnificent enterprise .....and so far, it is achieving the greatest possible success. Bravo Bravissimo..and now, back to the reality of great fictional drama...
