a couple of years ago i was at the mojo awards in London with Dinosaur Jr, which is an excuse to put a bunch of ultra-and-not-so-famous musicians in a room and bestow nebulous distinctions upon them. It was great. Dinosaur Jr were seated at a table with The Buzzcocks and i sat right next to Pete Shelley, who quipped in my ear all night long in his heavy Mancunian accent. When The Zombies stood up, in a line, to accept an award, dressed in possibly matching suits, Pete said looks like an album cover, turns out that he knew nothing about them, coudnt name one of their songs. I thought how could this be? One of my deepest regrets is not dragging him over to their table and introducing them to Pete Shelley thus uniting the 2, in my opinion, greatest pop bands in musical history.
