…a little less politics – a little more sincerity; Support displayed in action, please no more empty rhetoric! Speaking of the Law Enforcement Appreciation Day [L.E.A.D.] MAYOR/ A media outlet unintentionally (opinion) mislead the community by reporting “Yet the mayor was part of the gathering” …truth be told he showed up well after the event – grabbed his media opportunity and fled! Never did he attempt to make contact with either host of the event. Further truth, he had opportunity to speak as part of the program; he turned it down! His commitment, apparently was the amount of time it took to get on camera. Our community deserves to know the truth. My cohost of this event was the president of: Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). She is not an associate member… rather an intimate member of the fraternity, which we all wish – she was not. You see, her organization is about the survivor. It is about the spouse, the children, and the family members that must find a way to go on after they lost their law enforcement officer to the hazards of the career. She did. I for one am indebted to her sacrifice, and pledge respect to her; her fallen officer – forever our remembered brother! CHIEF/ posted: “chief Flynn not invited to tonight’s political rally – his support for his officers is proven; he doesn’t pander, he leads”. Really… well here comes some more truth: I believe, he was well aware of the event – the night prior we spoke face-to-face at the FPC. His COS/PIO had a copy of the media release, as well as, the district commander. Of the many that joined us, shared sorrow emotion and supportive appreciation, NONE did I send a personal invite – but yet they came, they cared! His words: POLITICAL RALLY - this was a nationwide endeavor; never billed as political… unconscionable for the chief to attack in the manner he did! I struggle to clearly see how he is supportive. Furthermore, there was nothing political about the L.E.A.D. event. CHIEF/ You want to be supportive, partner-up the squads, fight for staffing, and eliminate the unsafe practice of furloughing… demand determinative resolution to a legacy radio problem! Tell your boss that your cops deserve a contract! Support is more than a word. MAYOR/ Real support would gratefully be appreciated from you as well. These officers you declare appreciation of… 740 [seven hundred forty!] working under the last contract. Support is more than a word. -Mike Crivello, MPA President
