{a longie, but goodie} If you want your business to succeed like a REAL BUSINESS... then you need to TREAT IT like a real business ;) For example, what happens if you get an unexpected bill? What happens if you run over a bunch of nails and all of a sudden need to get new tires for your car? What do you do when you get a new boyfriend/girlfriend to spend time with? What if you lose 1 or 2 clients? If your FIRST REACTION to temporal circumstances is to STEAL life from your business... and to make your business suffer by cutting back on your business financial commitments, investments, time you put in, and growth activities... Then youre not treating your business like a real business. If you were an EMPLOYEE somewhere and you got a new boyfriend or girlfriend, would you stop going in to work? If you were an EMPLOYEE somewhere and you needed to buy new tires, would you freak out and stop going to work? Thats pretty much what youre doing when you let your emotions and temporal circumstances freak you out to where you start cutting off every ounce of life from your business the second a hard time comes your way. You feel a little tiny pinch, you feel a tiny squeeze, (and maybe sometimes a BIG ONE)... But instead of looking for ways to GROW THROUGH IT... and asking How CAN I make this work? ... For most people its a frantic and desperate search for What can I cut off? and sadly the thing that gets cut off is the one thing that could get you out of the mess. Its like, Oh, I got a cold, I got the flu... I know! Let me cut off my blood supply! That will surely help! Nope... that will ENSURE you die. Its not really common sense at all. I dont know how anyone would think they can behave in such manners with their business and think that the business will continue to be a source of sustenance for them? Folks, nobody ever said entrepreneurship was EASY... nobody said it was a magic pill... nobody ever said that having a business would mean that regular normal life issues and setbacks would no longer happen to you... But IT IS time to pull up your big girl & big boy pants and start taking some serious responsibility for what you want to create in your life. Running for the hills when opposition comes is NOT the behavior of winners, nor the behavior of someone who is a CEO of THEIR company ;) Please, please, please... DO NOT let it be sooooooo easy for you to kick your business to the curb. If cutbacks are really the ONLY way your mind can conceive of to get past the block youre in (even though they ARE NOT the only way, but nevertheless, if your mind thinks so....) then I bet there are PLENTY of things to cut back on BEFORE having to hit your business.... Junk food... movies... Starbucks... manis and pedis... etc. And heres a novel idea... Dig in... and work harder! Hustle your booty off! Seriously... Do you know that when Mike and I first started our biz... IT WAS NOT EASY... we had setback after setback... and Im not talking about tiny little ones like one little extra bill... The space shuttle program was shut down in our county, people were leaving in droves, the local economy was crappy as all get out... and then the Department of Transportation decided to widen the road where our office was located and we were forced to move... then we found out I was pregnant... Then we had to move the place we were renting... All within like a 2 month window!!! (and we were bringing in about $400/month at the time - pretty dang scary - bills mounting up...) We didnt say, Oh crap! Lets kill the business were desperate! Lets stop marketing! Lets run away from all our bills and our commitments! UH... NO!!!! You know what we did? We went out on TRASH NIGHT and found printers and monitors and vacuum cleaners on the side of the road and we sold that junk on Craigslist! Yep, we sure did! And all the money we made from it... you know what we did with it??? We kept feeding our business! And a funny little thing happened... The business FED US BACK! Thats how it works folks. If you have a DREAM... you have to FUND YOUR DREAM... no matter what it takes.... dont tell me its your dream... dont tell me you want it so bad... and then let me see you giving up on *IT* the very second you even HEAR ABOUT a setback could POSSIBLY be coming! Most entrepreneurs tend to bite off a little more than they can chew, hoping theyll quickly learn how to chew it! Seriously folks... You do have to want it... you have to want it bad... you have to treat your business like a REAL BUSINESS... and you have to sometimes make scary decisions ... and then grow into the person who can pull it off along the way :D Dont give up! There are people cheering you on more than you even cheer yourself on! Suck it up... pick it up... and keep on keepin on... you can do it! If you really want it so bad... dont let it be the first thing that you take away from... that is all... preaching over. haha :D
